What is Clinical Reflexology?
Clinical Reflexology is a gentle, non-invasive holistic therapy based on the theory that feet and hands have points corresponding to body organs and systems that when stimulated encourage the body to restore balance and well-being. It is applied by finger and thumb pressure technique to the hands and feet specific points. The oldest evidence documenting a foot treatment was found on an Egyptian papyrus from around 2500BC and the ancient Chines used similar technique on the hands and feet to improve health and wellbeing.
Reflexology induces a state of deep relaxation which helps with stress related diseases. It stimulates a free flow of blood and lymph supply to cells and tissues, which is crucial to good health. Mental health is also improved through the sense of deep relaxation and enhanced energy.
Treatment
You may wish to have a shower or a bath beforehand to get your muscles relaxed. There is no need to undress, only your feet will be exposed. A massage bed will be set up so you can lie down and relax during the treatment with your legs and feet slightly raised by a supporting cushion.
First treatment starts with a 15 – 20 min consultation to understand your medical and personal needs, any follow up session will start with a 5 – 10 mins consultation to assess any changes in your health or medical needs and overall wellbeing. This time is in addition to the treatment times.
